First Awakenings is a quick walk down by the water. Built in an old factory, they offer giant windows and giant portions to tide us over for our hike at Point Lobos State Reserve. It’s a bit overcast, but what a great hike.

We’re hungry, but nothing sounds good. I spot a fish taco truck, El volcan, and we gobble handmade tortillas and fresh fish by the water before leaving town.

Oakland, here we come.

Karl has to make the long haul during rush hour to take the car back to San Fran then take the BART back to Oakland. He’s gone for 3 hours so I roam the city a bit. Cute shops and restaurants, kind, interesting people and a great energy in the air.

We meet back up with our travel partners and head to dinner at Desco. Italian, high ceilings, low light, fire grilled pizzas. We walk off dinner down at the Harbor where we finally find some action. Plank is beer garden, bowling, bocce and video games. It’s packed. We swing by Jack London Square to see his re-located cabin. Originally in the Klondike region of the Yukon in north-western Canada, I imagine Jack worked on White Fang here. It was so tiny. Like treehouse tiny.

We end our last night trying to watch Hurricane Irma and finishing up the last of our drinks before heading home in the a.m.

It’s been a good trip. Gobs of walking and eating and drinking and people watching and photo-taking.

Time to plan our next adventure.
