It’s warm but beautiful on our drive up to Napa. We start with Artesa winery—it’s up on a hill with water fountains and stunning views. We taste. We buy. We continue on.
Gott’s in the downtown area is fantastic. Fish tacos, burgers, Impossible veggie burger, Ahi tuna—all this with a bright white 50s diner feel. We’re incredibly happy and head out to our next winery.
Chris Ireland hooks us up with free passes to Hess Collection Winery. The wine is tasty but the three floors of artwork makes it.
Cakebread Cellars are only taking reservations but they give us a quick taste then we head out to Castello di Amorosa because it’s a real deal castle. We slug some wine, take the tour, mingle with wildlife and head to our hotel in Calistoga. Armed with wine, cheese (and accidentally French butter) we head to the pool to soak our tired legs in the saltwater hot tub before dinner.
Brannan’s Grill has tapas style food and much to my delight, a server with a made-for-tv California accent. He thinks he’s hiding it, but it’s so rad and I couldn’t be more stoked to hear him talk. He’s ready for SNL.

Karl also tried a little bit of night photography while we were there.
